About 120 guests attended the nineteenth annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Embassy Suites in Brea on Sunday, March 8, 2020. An annual fundraiser, the ball is held to raise money for scholarships and jazz education programs.
Guests dined and danced to the music of the Fullerton College Lemon Street Stompers, the Cal State University, Fullerton Jazz Orchestra and guest soloists. Students from Beechwood Elementary School played a few tunes on their recorders, under the direction of Jennifer Hart. A krewe parade and a silent auction completed the festive event.
King Nick and Queen Dottie Batinich reigned over the evening. Larry Arthur served as Chair. Pam Appleman chaired the silent auction. Wayne Mason was Master of Ceremonies.
All proceeds benefit students at the elementary, high school and college levels to promote the growth and development of jazz appreciation and education.
